Mexoryl is
a UVA absorbing ingredient that is considered to be the most Mexoryl has been used for years in sunscreens in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and South America. L'Oreal is the maker of sunscreens with Mexoryl. What is special about Mexoryl?Mexoryl is better at blocking the suns UVA rays, the rays that penetrate deeply into the skin, causing sagging and wrinkling of the skin and possibly certain cancers. "Anthelios SX" is a daily-use moisturizer with sunscreen that comes in SPF 15. The stronger sunscreen "Ombrelle" with Mexoryl comes in SPF 30 and higher, and is also manufactured by L'Oreal. If you look at the 3 ingredients above, the firs, Octocrylene, is to filter out UVB rays (the burning rays). The second ingredient, Avobenzone, is a very good filter for UVA rays (but not as good as Mexoryl). Adding Mexoryl SX to the mix will certainly create much more effective skin protection. If you are really concerned about your skin's health, you can protect yourself by following some basic rules: Between the hours of 10am and 4pm, you should use protection other than, or in addition to sunscreens, or just stay out of the sun completely. Sun protective clothing, a good wide-brimmed hat, dark sunglasses with UVA/UVB protection, and a good beach umbrella can all protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun. In the water, wear a rash guard with a skin protection factor of 50. That means that only 1/50 of the sun's rays can penetrate. A rash guard is a very comfortable spandex type shirt that you wear while swimming. Divers, surfers, and kayakers wear them a lot. When you start the tanning process, don't overdo it the first few days. Avoid being sunburned at all costs. Exposure to the sun is essential for good health because our bodies need sun exposure to produce vitamin D. Build up your bodies tolerance (tan) to the sun gradually, and avoid baking in the sun between 10am and 4pm when ultraviolet radiation is highest.
