Daily Beach Report

Daily Beach Reporting Guidelines

Below are some items that should appear in every report:
  • Time of observation - feel free to make as many updates as you like each day.
  • Air temperature or expected high and low (low 80's, etc.) Fahrenheit please, or F and Celcius if you like.
  • Water temperature if you know it. You can use other sources if necessary.
  • Surf conditions (flat, small surf, rough) Use surfer's terminology if you know it (waist high chop, etc)
  • Wind (light and variable, calm, windy) Indicate wind direction or at least whether it is blowing onshore or offshore.
  • Sky conditions (sunny, cloudy, hazy, foggy, rain, lightning, audible thunder, etc.)
  • Water clarity (clear, average, suspended sediment)
  • Red Tide Status (none, mild respiratory irritation, moderate, severe) and state whether there are any dead fish on the beach or not. This is a really important observation, particularly in light of the recent persistence of the red tide outbreak. Be honest.
  • Add whatever other information you think is relevant. If it's a great day at the beach, say so!

Below are observations that should be reported IF they apply:
  • Crowd conditions
  • Beach closings due to high bacteria levels, shark sightings, or any other reason.
  • Renourishment pipes and heavy equipment on the beach
  • Unusually high numbers of jellyfish or stingrays in the water
  • Severe weather reports
  • Large numbers of shells washed up on the beach (shell collectors will be glad to know).
  • Events like boat races, festivals, parades, etc, that may affect crowds, traffic, noise levels, etc.
People are counting on you to keep them informed! Feel free to add whatever observations you feel are relevant to people coming to the beach.

Above all, if it's a great beach day, SAY SO!
