This page has a progressive series of photographs taken just north of the jetty at Pass-A-Grille beach, beginning in June 2004. I'll add a new photo and narrative every month or so, and after high surf events to follow the erosion or accretion of the beach.

June 2004 Pass-A-Grille beach just north of the jetty, before Hurricane Jeanne passed. Notice that you can't see the dune walkovers because they are surrounded by sea oat covered dunes. The sticks and yellow tape in front of the dunes are markers for sea turtle nests.
September 2004 Roughly the same spot as above taken after Hurricane Jeanne. Notice the dune walkover is partially exposed because of dune erosion. At the right side of the photo you can see how the dune has been partially removed by the storm surge.
November 2004 Another photo taken in the final stages of beach renourishment. The sand has been graded up to the old dune and, one hopes, will quickly become covered with sea oats. Notice how much sand there is between the end of the dune walkover and the water.  To be continued...
December 2004

Photo taken December 26 after the nighttime passage of a powerful low pressure system, causing near hurricane force winds from the west for several hours before dawn. Looks like the beach lost some sand near the water, resulting in a slightly narrower beach, but the sand in front of the dune seems mostly intact, although somewhat redistributed.
June 2005 About one month before Hurricane Dennis passed by.
July 20, 2005

Several days after the passage of Hurricane Dennis, which stayed out in the Gulf. Based on the dune walkovers, it appears that the beach lost a foot or two of sand.
Oct 19, 2005 Taken as newly formed Hurricane Wilma, just this morning declared a category 5 storm, takes aim at Florida. The beach appears to have rebuilt itself naturally.
Oct 24, 2005 The morning after Hurricane Wilma. Winds 50+ mph. Beach looks undamaged. No storm surge. Wilma passed more than 200 miles to the south.
