| Turtle Beach is the southernmost public beach
access on Siesta Key. It's at the south end of Midnight Pass
Road. The sand at this end of the island contains dark fragments
of fossilized materials and has some broken shell mixed in. It
is softer and a little harder to walk on than the sand north of
Point-of-Rocks. The water drops off more steeply than on the
more northerly beaches on the island. Turtle beach is named for the many sea turtles that used to lay eggs on the beach here. If you are looking for a quieter experience you might consider looking for a vacation rental in the Turtle Beach area. This end of the island has much less traffic, fewer people, and more trees. I took the above photo on a warm summer weekday afternoon, and as you can see, there were very few people on the beach. Of course weekends do bring in a small crowd. |
